If you really want to enjoy your time on the water without worrying about your boat battery dying then it is in your best interest to purchase boat battery chargers.
Boat battery chargers are great for quickly charging your battery when your battery has run low or has completely died. Some people will carry back up batteries but if you have just stored a back up battery as just a back up, it may not have any “juice” left in it either. People assume that if they haven’t used a battery but have let it sit on the shelf for a few months that it will be ok. They are greatly disappointed when they have relied on a back up battery that has sat for months only to discover that it is dead.
So your next and ideal option is to have a battery charger. The biggest problem with having battery chargers is trying to find one that can hold a charge for longer than an hour even at full charge.
One of my favorite and most recommended boat battery chargers is made by Schumacher. The Schumacher SSC-1500A Ship 'N' Shore Speed Charge Charger has received many positive reviews for its ease of use and decent lasting charge.
This battery can charge four main battery types: Lead Acid Auto Starter batteries, Deep Cycle Marine, AGM and Gel Cell. When you use it, you simply select what type of battery you are going to charge and the size of it. It will also display helpful information such as the volts available on the battery to be charged as well as how much of the battery is already charged. Once it starts charging, you can forget about it because there is no fear of it over charging. Once the battery is charged, it sets into maintenance mode.
Another great thing about the battery is it can detect if your battery is “dirty” from sulfide build up. If it detects it is dirty, it will clean it. Cleaning the battery will extend the life.
The battery is very lightweight and so universal. You can use it on anything from car batteries, boat starter batteries, trolling deep cycle batteries, snowmobile, tractors and camping batteries.
The 15 amp fast charger can quickly charge your battery and monitor their condition. The 10 amp fast charger automates the charge rate for your everyday needs and keeps it in peak condition. The 2 amp slow charger can even charge small batteries.
The charger is relatively small in size. It has dimensions of 4 x 12 x 8 inches and weighs about 7 pounds.
